Working with Timeframes and Chart Types

ATAS allows you to use both standard time-based charts and advanced chart types based on volume, ticks, delta, price movement, and order flow.

Selecting a Timeframe or Chart Type

To select a timeframe or chart type, click the selector in the upper-left corner of the chart window and choose the required option.

If you need to change the loading period or specify a custom end date, disable Auto and configure the required parameters.

Configuring Timeframes

Click Configure to open the timeframe settings window.

The configuration window allows you to create, edit, reorder, and remove chart periods.

To create or modify a timeframe, select the required interval and click Add or Edit.

  • Timeframe – predefined interval or custom value.
  • Label – display name shown in the chart menu.
  • Default loaded days count – number of historical days loaded when opening a chart.

Chart Types

Minute

Bars are built according to the selected time interval. For example, if a value of 3 is selected, each bar represents 3 minutes of trading activity.

Seconds

Works similarly to the Minute chart but uses seconds instead of minutes. For example, a value of 45 creates a new bar every 45 seconds.

Tick

A tick chart is based on the number of trades. For example, if 144 is selected, a new bar is formed every 144 trades.

Tick charts distribute trades evenly between bars and are useful when analyzing volume and market activity.

Volume

Volume charts are built using a predefined amount of traded contracts. For example, a value of 500 creates a new bar every 500 traded contracts.

Choose volume values according to the instrument's liquidity. Highly liquid instruments typically require larger values.

Delta

A Delta chart creates a new bar when the difference between aggressive buying and selling volume reaches the specified value.

Range

Range charts ignore time and build a new bar whenever price moves a specified distance.

Additional range-based chart variations are available:

  • RangeX
  • RangeXV
  • RangeUS
  • RangeZ
These chart types are alternative implementations of range-based charting and may provide different market visualization depending on trading style.

Renko

Renko charts are built based on price movement rather than time. A new brick appears only after the price moves a predefined distance.

Unlike many other platforms, ATAS displays Renko candles with wicks to show all traded price levels and preserve volume analysis capabilities.

Reversal

Reversal charts require price movement in one direction followed by a rollback of a specified size before a new bar is formed.

  • Probe – minimum movement before a rollback can be counted.
  • Value – rollback size required to complete the bar.

Order Flow

Order Flow charts visualize the distribution of traded volume within each spread and help identify buyer and seller activity.

You can configure a minimum volume filter so that bars are formed only when the specified traded volume threshold is reached.

Cumulative Trades

Cumulative Trades charts display trade flow in a chart format similar to Smart Tape. This visualization helps track transaction activity and market participation directly on the chart.

You can filter trades by minimum and maximum volume values to analyze activity from different participant groups.
